The Solon B. Cousins Lectureship was established at Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond by several former students of Dr. Solon B. Cousins, Jr. Every year for these lectures BTSR invites an outstanding scholar to visit the seminary campus for discourse on Biblical and theological issues.

This year, Dr. John W. Kinney will be presenting lectures on “Would Thou Be Made Whole? Recovering Christ and Restoring Humanity.” Dr. Kinney is the Dean and Professor of Theology at the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University and has been the pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Beaverdam, VA for 35 years.

A native of Georgia, Dr. Cousins began teaching at the University of Richmond in 1932 while pastoring Second Baptist Church, Richmond. In 1937, he resigned his 16-year pastorate to teach full-time. Dr. Cousins served in numerous leadership roles, including president of the Baptist General Association of Virginia, and trustee for the Religious Herald, the Virginia Baptist Home, the Virginia Baptist General Board, and the Foreign Mission Board. In addition, he served in 26 interim pastorates while teaching at the University.
