SCM 3203 Starting Right
The transition into full-time ministry is challenging and the struggle to balance ministry needs with family and personal needs can be overwhelming. If you are a recent seminary graduate in your first three years of full-time ministry, Starting Right can help you become a more effective leader and a healthier person. Study and small group application of the Bowen family systems theory model of relationships will enable you to better understand the three primary relational systems to which you belong: family of origin, ministry setting, and current relational systems.

SCM 3213 Pastoral Leadership Seminar
Emotional intelligence has a significant impact on a leader’s capacity to effectively respond to conflict. In this seminar you will learn the concepts and components of emotional intelligence and explore its relevance to Christian ministry. The seminar will also present recent research concerning emotional intelligence and conflict management style among clergy. Participants will receive individual assessment and feedback regarding their level of emotional intelligence and tools for improving and applying emotional intelligence to congregational leadership. (Participants will be required to complete an online emotional intelligence assessment prior to the workshop).

SCM 3210 Engaging the Congregation in Gift-Based Ministry
Has your congregation embraced the concept of gift-based ministry and now you are wondering how to assess spiritual gifts and how to help people find their ministry niche? In this seminar you will examine a variety of assessment tools. You will discuss ministry descriptions, options for conducting ministry chats, and placement methods appropriate for your congregation.

SCM 3215 Sabbatical Leave Planning Workshop
Dreaming about a sabbatical but need some help in the planning process? In this practical workshop you will learn about the purpose and focus of the sabbatical, and the how-to’s of educating your congregation about sabbatical leave, helping the congregation develop a sabbatical leave policy, planning the sabbatical, and funding the sabbatical. You will receive information about sabbatical leave opportunities at BTSR.
