Deborah Carlton Loftis

Professor of Church Music

B.A., Furman University; M.C.M., Southern Baptist Theological Seminary; M.L.S., University of Alabama; Ph.D., University of Kentucky/University of Louisville joint program in Musicology

Professor Loftis is a contributing editor to The Hymn, the journal of the Hymn Society in the United States and Canada. She has taught at Samford University and McAfee School of Theology and served music librarian for the Birmingham Public Library. Professor Loftis is active in church and denominational life, having served as a minister of music in Kentucky, Associate Minister of Music for Riverchase Baptist Church in Birmingham, moderator of Alabama Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, and moderator of Virginia Baptist Women in Ministry.
