Cecil E. Sherman

First Baptist Church of Asheville, North Carolina, Visiting Professor of Pastoral Ministry


B.A., Baylor University; B.D., Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary; Th.M., Princeton Theological Seminary; Th.D., Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary

In the Southern Baptist controversy, Dr. Sherman was the most visible leader of the moderates and their major voice on the Peace Committee before he resigned in protest. He then served as the first Coordinator of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. Prior to his service at CBF, he was pastor of Broadway Baptist Church, Ft. Worth, Texas; for twenty years he was pastor of First Baptist Church of Asheville, North Carolina. Dr. Sherman has written extensively on issues in Baptist life and ministry.
