Professor Spencer joined the BTSR faculty in 2002, after teaching thirteen years at Wingate University. He has published four books including Loose Ladies (Continuum International Publishing Group, 2004) (a fifth is due out in April, 2008) and numerous articles and reviews in academic journals pertaining to his interests in Jesus and the Gospels, the book of Acts, and the role of women in the New Testament and early church. He is Vice-President of the Southeastern Commission for the Study of Religion and co-chair of the Acts Group for the Society of Biblical Literature. He regularly teaches and preaches in area churches and has served interim pastorates in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Texas. He has also enjoyed acting in university, seminary, and community theater productions, including recent roles in God’s Favorite, Cotton Patch Gospel, and Godspell for The BTSR Shoestring Players and Words of Albert Schweitzer and the Music of Bach for the Firehouse Theater in Richmond.
