Learn More About Our Courses in Music and Worship Leadership

Web-based Music and Worship courses help you build a strong foundation for music leadership in congregational worship.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn how to enrich congregational singing.
  • Explore their theology of music and worship.
  • Develop practical skills for working with choirs.
  • Engage in thought-provoking Q&A and discussion with class members and the instructor via threaded discussion forums.


Course Information
Three courses offered

Congregational Singing (SCM 7110)
Examine the role of the congregation as the primary choir in the congregation. Deepen your understanding of why we sing. Explore our heritage of hymns. Dates: January 14 – February 10, 2008

Music in the Life of the Congregation (SCM 7120)
Develop your theology of worship. Explore the role of music in the corporate worship experience. Examine how worship leaders function in worship. Survey traditional, contemporary, and blended styles of music and worship. Identify the role music plays in faith formation, fellowship, and Christian mission. Dates: February 25 – March 22, 2008

Leading the Choir (SCM 7130)
Gain a basic knowledge of choir rehearsal management. Learn how to build good choral sound. Identify sources for selecting and securing choral music. Learn techniques to create anthems from the hymnal. Dates: April 7 – May 4, 2008

Time & Location: The online course materials and discussion forums are Internet-based and accessible anytime, from anywhere.

Cost: $150 per course (Scholarships are available to cover 50% of tuition fees.)
