Naming Gifts

You or someone you admire can have a permanent legacy at BTSR Many types of naming opportunities exist--ranging from physical facilities such as rooms and buildings, to special funds such as endowed scholarships, to personnel needs such as endowed professorships.

Please contact the BTSR Advancement Office at (804) 204-1224 to discuss how your own area of interest can result in a named legacy at BTSR.

The following are just some of the names proudly in place at BTSR:

The Amy and Clyde Hickerson Greek Award

This endowment provides a medal and cash award each year for the seminary’s outstanding student in Greek. The award was established in their parents’ memory by gifts provided by the Hickersons’ four daughters. This award is presented each fall at BTSR’s annual Convocation. (Similar awards can be named or established by gifts beginning at $10,000.)

The Theodore F. Adams Professor of Pastoral Care

Named for the longtime pastor of Richmond’s First Baptist Church, this prominent faculty position at BTSR is currently held by Dr. Daniel G. Bagby, who is a prolific author, requested speaker, and highly admired leader in Baptist life. (Faculty positions – endowed chairs – can be permanently named and endowed for gifts beginning at $1 million.)

The Cecil and Dot Sherman Lecture Hall

Gifts from a host of friends and admirers are naming this important room at Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond. Well-known and beloved among Baptists in Virginia, North Carolina, Texas, and throughout the nation, Cecil and Dot Sherman represent and embody the traditional Baptist values
on which BTSR was founded.  (BTSR's rooms,
buildings, grounds, and other physical assets can be named by gifts ranging from $5,000 to $5 million.  There is currently a $500,000 opportunity to name the BTSR Chapel, the seminary's most used public gathering place.)  http://www.cecilsherman.com

The Ralph Langley Preaching Scholarship

Named for a beloved retired pastor and funded by his church, this annual scholarship is given to an incoming BTSR student who has stellar credentials and has been called to pursue a career as a senior pastor. (At BTSR there are many opportunities to make naming gifts in honor and/or memory of pastors.)
