Purpose
The purpose of the Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond’s Alumni Association is to cultivate and strengthen relationships between alumni, the seminary, and the larger religious community. In 2007 the first Alumni Relations Board (ARB) was selected, and in April of 2008 commenced its first meeting, thus inaugurating the BTSR Alumni Association.
Members
The Alumni Relations members are those who graduated from BTSR with a master’s degree or a doctor’s degree, or who are Alumni by Choice. An Alumni by Choice is an individual who graduated from another seminary receiving a master’s degree or doctor’s degree, but who wishes to align him/herself with BTSR. The degree received from another school is equivalent to those degrees offered by BTSR.
Alumni Relations Board (ARB)
ARB Members
The Alumni Relations Board consists of sixteen members nominated from the BTSR Alumni Association and selected by the previous year’s ARB Administration Team. Each member serves for two years, with half of the members being new each year. Thus, each board consists of eight new members and eight veteran members. Each ARB member serves on one of four teams which include, but are not limited to: Administration, Communications, Events, and Finance.
ARB Meetings and Officers
The ARB meets twice a year as a board, one of which is at BTSR. Officers of the ARB include two Co-chairs, a Secretary, and a Treasurer.
Regular Events
Highlights of the work of the ARB include the following:
- Annual Homecoming Event
- Regional alumni gatherings
- Periodic gatherings at local, state, and national events in Baptist life
- Welcoming new graduates
- Contributing financially and otherwise to the seminary
- Participating in alumni chapel on campus
