The Master of Divinity with a concentration in Biblical Interpretation is designed to equip seminarians with (1) advanced skills in  using biblical languages and  applying  methods and tools of biblical hermeneutics and (2) deeper understanding of biblical literature, themes of biblical theology, and  critical issues confronting contemporary biblical scholarship. 

With a congregational focus, the concentration will prepare ministers to excel in biblical preaching and teaching by developing a faith that is formed by a profound relationship with scripture.

In addition to the seven courses in biblical studies required in the M.Div. core curriculum, students seeking the concentration in Biblical Interpretation will fulfill a second language requirement, a course in “Models of Biblical Interpretation,” a seminar on “Topics in Biblical Interpretation,” and any three additional upper-level biblical courses (including homiletics courses with an exegetical focus). With the permission of the biblical faculty, a student may also choose to submit a thesis project for up to three credits of the required total of seven credits for the concentration.

To receive the M.Div in Biblical Interpretation, a student must successfully complete the following courses:

B1121 and B1122 Introduction to the Biblical Hebrew I & II  
B1521 and B1522 New Testament Greek I & II
B1070 Models of Biblical Interpretation
B1080 Topics in Biblical Interpretation.

Any three courses from the 1000, 1100, or 1500 series (to include M3117 and M3134), with no more than two from one series. 

With the permission of the biblical faculty, a student may also choose to submit a thesis project for up to three credits.
